Game Change is FINALLY on DVD.

The book was one of my favorites and focused evenly on the Obama and McCain run in 2008 - this movie was all about Lady Sarah. I was actually feeling sorry for Palin by the end of the 2 hours - then I turned on the news and she reminded me why I chose to ignore her, her antics and her entire family.

Julianne Moore IS the best she has ever been. = A+

TV - Downtown Abbey (Masterpiece Theatre)

Bond, James Bond...Benny Hill and William and Kate - that's it for my UK explosion. I am not a fan of the Brits, period pieces and hard accents so I never paid this show any attention. Over the year it took over many award shows as well as talk on the daytime shows but then the actors started popping up on my political shows?! Really Chris Matthews. It wasnt until Jimmy Fallon's parody (which was spot on) and even included Brooke Shield and Whoopi Goldberg that opened my eyes.

A number of friends have been yacking my ear off about this show. While I was pushing the latest Wipe Out big balls special a close friend told me she and her husband were watching Downtown Abbey season one and two. She convinced me to give it an hour or two. I gave it two...SEASONS. I STILL cant explain how I got sucked in.

I got hooked QUICKLY - The best description: Dynasty/Dallas with equal time following the house maids and butlers. This was SUPRISINGLY a great show - I am in.

Not just PBS but MASTERPIECE THEATRE My Lord and My Lady ..LOL

The original is one of my favorite movies of all time.

If you like the classic, you will LOVE this remake. The script and special effects give it the update needed to bring it to 2012 - with just the right amount of "homage" to Aunold's version to keep the die hards happy.

Expendables 2

Adventure and funny one liners from "most" of the greats in classic action cinema gives this movie two thumbs up. The first one had more ACTION but E2 was just as entertaining with edge of your seat scenes. The less I say the better - WORTH * THE* WAIT!!

THIS is the ONLY Spiderman worth having.!

M3 - is a mess and a MUST SEE!

 

Tons of actions and funny for the kids and kid at heart and a killer oldschool soundtrack for those of us of a "particuar age".

 

M3 had me at C and C music factory, then they threw "Cool jerk" and "Con te partirò" at me. Followed by Chris Rock singing "Circus" (thats been played in the commercials all year and STILL funny)

 

Get it for mom, grandma, yourself...oh yeah and the kiddies

dvd - Three Stooges

The Three Stooges was the FUNNIEST movie I have seen this YEAR. HILARIOUS!! If you are a fan of the original get it - Everyone from kids to the grands will find a YUCK or two.

They found the perfect trio to bring this to the big screen - the actors, the pratfalls, the cameos and a good story gives this an A+ in my collection

tv -SCANDAL

It took me a while to commit to this show but after watching back to back episodes of the entire midseason series - SCANDAL lived up to its name and became my SECOND favorite show of the year!!! 
What a cast!!! plus great writing makes this show tops. The West wing, 24, Dallas and Law & Order all mixed together = sexy, drama and a thriller.
All I can say is I am SO glad this is not a reflection of the current resident of the big house. I received chills when the lead character said " I am not John Edwards" ... This show arch COULD have happened if this writers candidate won the election.

This season is over so if you missed it, catch it on HULU, ABC.com or buy the DVD you will NOT be disappoint.

Scandal is Scandalous and I like it!! A ++++

dvd- Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Tommy Cruise teams up with JJ Abrahms for the 4th go round of impossible missions. Suprise cameos, Action, great special effects, action, Tom in a "Treyvon Martin hoodie", more action. I loved it.
I am not going to say its the best of the series but its better than the third and AS good as the second.

book- Vanessa Williams - You have no idea

 

Absolutely the best autobiography I have read in years.

Va Vanessa proved that she is not only a pretty face with her Miss America crown but she lived and worked hard for everything she got.

She also reminded us that pretty people have problems too.

This was a great read - even the stories I thought I already KNEW was told with a new angle.

Highly recommended.

Va Vanessa with the singing, acting and writing career did a GREAT job with her mother on this book.

I really hope I aint the only one watching this great show - but with the third move on the weekly schedule - to one of the slowest tv days of the week (Friday) it is sure to be canned sooned.

Each week finds the main character - wacky smart Walter, on a new mystery - Hart to Hart + Fringe+ Rush Hour ..watered down for tv.

 A great hour ...I hope it sticks around.

The Adventures of Tintin

What a movie! Simply put - an animated version of a young Indiana Jones. Snowy the dog is supposed to be the sidekick but he STEALS the movie. Wish I had seen it in 3D

The Firm- John Grisham

 Could be THE BEST Grisham book EVER. All these years I thought I already read it but only seen the Tom Cruise version. Could not put it down. A+ djrr

book - the Politician

July 24th - The Politician - Andrew Young

 Not a bad read although 2/3rds of the book was about the writer and his life - we eventually got to the juicy yet sad accounts that luckily kept many of us from making a bad voting decision. Originally on Team Edwards what a slap in the face to know the whole baby mama drama was steps from the White House while his wife was dealing with cancer. I did read every page, not going to recommend it unless you ALMOST voted Edwards - then you will be entertained. - C+ - djrr

HBO - Game change

This movie was very good. They made it interesting even tho we know the outcome. I guess focusing just the Sarah Palin story turned this into a 2 hr

movie instead of a 4 day miniseries.

Very well written, the acting is GREAT and Julianne Moore is Emmy bound. The acting was so good, I actually forgot I didnt like Palin and felt sorry for her wacky ass for a good hour.

After reading the book for the first time a few weeks ago, I decided to revisit the film.

It was weird knowing which scenes were not in the novel but the dvd was great non the less - a young Tom Cruise brought the action to the drama.

 She is one of a kind and the reason I watch "the View". Whoopi always has something to say and aint scared to say it I thought this book would be funnier but its filled with Whoopi-isms and things that piss her off. B-

I know what you are thinking - of course he would love this book what else is new. That's exactly what I thought when I bought this hence it took me a few years to take it off the book case. This book was so well written that it gave new twists to stories I had heard over the years. This book was penned from the fan's perspective which kept you glued to each page- it was as if I was reading some of these accounts for the first time (even tho I knew how each story ended) I liked it, read evry page and many of you better act surprised when you get a copy from santa. This is my favorite book on Ms Ross ...ever A+ -djrr

book- Ricky Martin - Me

Me- Ricky Martin. The life of "KiKi" from child megastar, soaps, a "Mexican oscar", "Living lavida loca" to father of twins. Funny how he can write a "tell all" on his "exploits" and actually leave out the names. B -djrr

dvd- Hugo

First, this movie is promoted as a kids film. Too"artsy" with a PG rating - none of the under 13 kids I know will sit through, let alone appreciate this film.

That said - VERY good! Sacha Baron Cohen is a pleasent suprise. Funny in parts, deep in parts - sucks you in and keeps you interested.

Great great great...again, not a kids movie.

This was a GREAT movie for all ages.

BETTER than Shrek 2 and 3.

For those of us over the age of 30 (40 whatever) the references from children's nursey rhymes mentioned way before the Wiggles and Dora is a treat.

 I bought it for the churen but this one will not leave my collection.

Latoya Jackson Starting Over

- LaToya was the first Jackson album I ever bought, yep before Janet Damita Jo. This book was promoted as a conpiracy type book into Michael's death but this wasnt covered until page 282. This was an autobiography part 2 since the first one was co written by the abusive ex husband. I was told that I was making faces as I read this book. Some things were unbelievable at first read but made sense when you do the history. Interesting read as the trial begins..to be continued

update: Many things listed in detective Latoyas book came out in the trial, making this book more credible

 I know you expect me to say this was the best book of the year. It was okay, nothing new in the 300 pages except the 2 dozen recipes in the back. Damita Jo talks about being teased and put down her entire life,weight gain and weight loss as well as including letters from fans that moved her. B+ -djrr

 Just finished Foxy- the life of Pam Grier. I had always been a fan of the queen of the "blackploitation" films but after this read I have a greater appreciation of how hard she had to make it . I also realized i havent seen half o...f her videography - watchout Amazon. From the 70s hit Coffy to the iconic Jackie Brown to the tv appeareance in Smallville. Pam Grier is in my top 5 of great actresses of my generation - djrr

This movie NEVER gets old - I am moving in on 2 dozen views

dvd- Bridesmaids

It took me a long while to get to this one. I can't say it lived up to the much HYPE but the

movie was enjoyable. I was already a fan of Melissa McCarthy and she not only did NOT disappoint, she earned her Oscar nod for this performance.

I tend to love any action movie with the govenator- This was a good movie - action,  Arnold and a decent story plus

Real life game show legend Richard Dawson as an evil game show host CLASSIC!

A great ensemble cast of familiar faces. Eddie, Ben and Matthew are showing their age but they are still funny but Gabby steals this movie from the fellas

This movie was surprisingly good keeping my attention from beginning to end.

 I guess that means I liked it.

Nothing like watching 23 videos - knowing  and liking each one! This is a great addition to any music fan's collection
